    • Beverly specializes in Aristotle's metaphysical and physical theories. Her main area of research is Aristotle's concept of matter. Matter for Aristotle has often been viewed as a wholly featureless "stuff" with no metaphysical role to play aside from the receptacle for formal, determinate features. In her work, Beverly aims to show that Aristotle fashioned a concept of matter as that which allowed for differentiation of parts and of functions in natural substances. As such, matter plays an important role in explaining how natural substances can develop and interact with their environment.
